Rachel Kneebone

Rachel Kneebone(1973) is an English ceramic sculptor based in London.  She has a show right now at the Brooklyn Museum that I must go to.  After completing my last work of art, a classmate, and then today a co-worker told me that the work somewhat reminded them of Kneebone.  I looked her up and her show: Regarding Rodin will be on display until August 12th.  (http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/kneebone_rodin/#)

I can see some of the comparisons, like the figurative aspect and also the overlapping and general abundance of form, these are very sensuous and smooth where mine are rustic and highly textured.

I love this crazy busy, cokoo donga pot with lots of stuff going on, including little birds, a mouse, and pear-shaped papaya type fruits symbolizing abundance.  Enjoy!

Vessel of Abundance

With all of the throw-aways of late, I am happy to be able to post this lovely lovely sculpture.  This is my Vessel of Abundance, sort of a figure "open and receptive to all good" and then sculpted versions of abundance all around her, the shape of the pot is superb and is accentuated by the figures vuluptious curves.  I love the wheel thrown pots hidden purpose as structure for the work of art, yet it is totally covered over with trimmings of all sorts, uniting the entire work as a ceramic sculpture.

These are two more vessels Which although I spent a while wheel-throwing the form, and then hand sculpting all the small elements on, I am not keeping either of these works of art, they shall remain here in digital photograh form, but that is all.  They are interesting and good, but they are not pleasing enough for me to want them to become permanent.

Winged man and his hanger-on

This is an experimental pot I made with a much simpler less "busy" composition with some encursted barnacle-esque forms on it.  This will not be fired, and is heading back into the reclaim bucket.  Fly away birdie.

Second encursted Pot to be bisqued

This is the second work that I am sending into the bisque fire at greenwich house, the next few will be much taller, this one is only about seven inches in height im estimating.

Ceramic work

Here are a few views of the latest work of ceramic art.  The work is smaller than it looks, maybe only seven inches in height!!!  (I will have to measure) it is the first work of art that I created at Greenwichhouse pottery and Im in love.  Its a cumulation of the right form, the perfect texture, and compositional elements which create some small degree of order in these extremely busily decorated pots.
